Temaki-Zushi

Temaki means "hand-rolled" wrapped with nori (black sea weed sheet).

Material:
  • Vinegared rice
  • A few kinds of condiments from the same list shown for nigiri
  • Sliced pickled ginger
  • Wasabi paste
  • Sushi dip, or soy source
  • Green tea
  • Nori
Preparation:
  • Cut the condiments to a size of approximately 1/2 inch wide and 2 inch long.
  • Add also cut pieces of cucumber, and/or avocado, radish sprout.
  • Cut each nori (in the standard size) into four pieces of 3 inch by 4 inch approximately by folding twice. (Standard size of nori is 7 inch by 7.5 inch.)
  • Spread one bite amount of vinegared rice over the nori in such a way that the temaki-zushi becomes in a conical shape.
  • Add condiment pieces at the center of the rice.
  • Wrap the condiments around rice.

For each person, the following three items will be served:
  • Place 5 to 6 pieces of temaki-zushi on a plate with one spoon of pickled ginger slices.
  • Sushi dip or soy source on a small plate.
  • A cup of green tea (see green tea page)
A variation:

The work of making temaki-zushi can be left for each member around the dinner table. To do this, serve vinegard rice and condiments separately on large dishes. Distribute nori pieces and sushi dip to each person.
